This tool converts your three-month blood sugar average (HbA1c) into Estimated Average Glucose (eAG), the units you see on daily glucose monitors.
Estimated Average Glucose (mg/dL):
154 mg/dL
Estimated Average Glucose (mmol/L):
8.558 mmol/L
The estimated Average Glucose (eAG) is derived from the A1c-Derived Average Glucose (ADAG) clinical study, which established a clear mathematical relationship between your HbA1c percentage and your average blood glucose levels.
eAG (mg/dL) = (28.7 × HbA1c) - 46.7
For a person with an 8% HbA1c, the conversion to eAG would be calculated as follows:
HbA1c measures the percentage of your glucose-coated hemoglobin. Because red blood cells live for about 3 months, it reflects your average glucose level over that period.
Converting to eAG translates the A1c percentage into the same units (mg/dL) used by home glucose monitors and CGMs, making it easier to compare your long-term average with daily readings.
While highly reliable, individual patterns may vary due to factors like red blood cell lifespan, anemia, or other hemoglobin variants. Always consult your healthcare provider to interpret your results in clinical context.
