This calculator estimates how many additional 5-star reviews are needed to reach a desired average rating on your Google Business Profile.
Key formula: x = ceil( n * (t - r) / (5 - t) ) where r = current average rating, n = number of current reviews, t = target average, and x = required additional 5-star reviews.
x = ceil( n * (t - r) / (5 - t) )
Example values: current average 3.8 with 100 reviews, target average 4.5.
Yes. The result shows how many additional 5-star reviews are required; if new reviews are lower than 5 stars, you will need more to reach the same target.
Extremely high targets like a perfect 5.0 may be impossible if you already have reviews below 5.0, because new 5-star reviews cannot raise the average to 5.0 unless all existing reviews are also 5 stars.
If incoming reviews include ratings below 5, update the inputs with expected mix or run multiple scenarios; the required count of 5-star reviews will increase if some new reviews are lower.
Both matter. Encouraging more genuine 5-star reviews improves your average faster, but addressing issues that cause low ratings will sustain higher averages over time.
